Wow, what just happened in the past 3 weeks? Were the planets aligned in some crazy way?
A zillion things seemed to happen and there was not a spare hour.
Partner admitted via emergency to hospital and 4 hours later is in surgery, my mum had an 80th birthday bash, my youngest daughter announced her engagement (a big surprise!), my partner has his birthday, we spend one whole afternoon in the bank streamlining our bank accounts etc etc. Suffice to say, it goes on and on, but no need to bore you.
So not a moment was spent in the studio until today when I ventured in to tackle the last 5 boxes! Everything has had to be cleaned item by item before its placed in its new position, 2 years of storage even with extensive packaging methods means a lot of dust and grime. It has been the slowest process!
But I have taken the opportunity to sharpen every metal tool with my trusty dremel, sand and oil all my wooden tools and really sort out my magazine and book collection.
It is starting to feel like MY space, it smells of perfumed candles and is full of colour and texture and shapes. I have also unpacked my CD collection and have loved having all my energetic, relaxing and loved music playing as I work.
This weeks goal is to get some stamps ordered for both packaging and my makers mark for clay, and fingers crossed order my letterpress cards..... yippee!!!!! I love letterpress (read last post), and look forward to having cards that are tactile and hopefully memorable. Yesterday a box of work was picked up to go to Maldon- a new shop 'Field of Clover handmade gallery' is opening and will stock selected pieces of mine. My first invitation to stock my work here!
A month ago I purchased a near new second hand small kiln from Melbourne. Initially I intended to use it for glaze tests and small items like jewellery etc. but can now see it will be well used. Last night I bisque fired 10 thrown vessels that I water etched surface shapes onto, another first (insert happy face here). Being a small kiln it was up to temp so quickly, and its cool down the same- so easy! I'm so excited after 2 years to be settling back into my favourite routine.
I am a certified creative addict- having played with arty methods constantly since childhood. Now I work mostly in clay, painting and textiles - always designing and making new objects.
