What a wonderful few hours in the studio. I am a bit over sanding and painting furniture and hanging stuff on the walls- so today had to play in clay.
A little bit of handbuilding makes the time fly by. The small vessels on the left are porcelain vases impressed with lace- the shape reminds me of paper lolly bags. On the turntable is an earthenware thrown pot that I painting black stained slip. When it has dried to leather hard I spent a very relaxing hour or two scratching away to create a surface of owls and oak leaves- a lot of fun, I think there will be more of these
At this time of year the garden is in full production mode and there are jobs to do that you cannot ignore. So I spent most of today working in my veg plot- removing the winter crops and prepping the beds for summer veg. I picked 4kg of broad beans!- lucky we love them, the herbs are prolific, so made 2 kg of garlic and mixed herb butter for the freezer. But working outside is contemplative, and a great time to think about shapes, forms and colours that work well together- all informative for what I do with clay. Some pots are emerging that are different to my normal approach, looking forward to their final firing.
Last night I attended a great night with Bendigo Creative Business Network where we did a small workshop on improving online presence via Small Business Vic- so many things happening behind the scenes that I need to do for The Studio Handmade, but lots of fun
Today I'm firing my new baby kiln with the first porcelain cups I've made here 😊👏Cant wait to open the door and see how they've come out
I am a certified creative addict- having played with arty methods constantly since childhood. Now I work mostly in clay, painting and textiles - always designing and making new objects.
